Expert note — India 2026

AGR works for lump sums. XIRR is accurate for SIPs with multiple cash flows. A fund showing 15% CAGR on NAV might give you only 12% XIRR on your SIP due to timing of purchases.

Frequently asked questions

XIRR vs CAGR — what's the difference?

CAGR uses only start and end values. XIRR accounts for all intermediate cash flows (each SIP instalment). For SIP investments, XIRR is always more accurate.

What is a good XIRR for mutual funds?

Equity funds: XIRR > 12% is good over 5+ years. Debt funds: 7-9% XIRR. ELSS: 12-15% XIRR over 5+ year horizon.
